I have such exciting news! I will be participating in my first bridal expo! The event is on October 9 at Space 23661 in Torrance. The expo is going to be tons of fun. Its designed to feel like a bridal reception with a DJ, waitstaff walking around platters of food, and maybe even a signature cocktail. It should be an great experience and I hope to meet a ton of great people!
It has been a long month and a half. My grandmother passed away a week after celebrating her 70th wedding anniversary with my grandfather. She was 5 days short of her 93rd birthday. 93 years... I'm not even sure how to process living that long and all the things one sees and experiences. Especially when you consider the rapid changes that have occurred even in the last 40 years. She was a very sweet lady who never said a bad word about anyone. She loved cooking, like making pasta and was able to do it until the last 5 years of her life. I miss her so very much.
In happier news my sister-in-law got married! The wedding was so much fun! The weather in New York held up beautifully and I embarrassed myself by crying my eyes out. I'll have to get a hold of the names of the photographer and the DJ. Both I would recommend highly. The venue was the Davenport Club in New Rochelle. It was a beautiful location and the staff was top notch. If you are looking for venues in the New York City area, check them out!
(Pssst, please ignore the poor quality of the iPhone photo. I haven't had a chance to prep for a proper photo shoot)
Happy 70th Anniversary!
Today is my grandparents' 70th anniversary. They got married with days of my grandfather's discharge from the Coast Guard at the end of WW2. My grandfather's 94th birthday was yesterday and my grandmother will be 93 in a couple weeks. They are lovely, warm people, who are still very much in love. May we all have such a wonderful marriage as them.
New Logo
This is a day I thought would never happen. I have a new logo! I find logo design to be really difficult and even more challenging when designing for myself.
I can't wait to get new business cards printed! Time to go pop some bubbly! ;-)
This has been really busy year so far, in both my personal and professional life. There will be lots of exciting things to share in the next few months. Like a new logo and new business cards!
In the meantime, I have recently returned from Spain and it was the perfect way to revive my creativity. The colors, textures, even the food! My husband and two dear friends, we went from Madrid to Seville to Granada to Valencia and returned to Madrid. It's hard to pick a favorite city. Here are a few photos and it was very very difficult to down select just just these few. So much magic and romance. Any of these place would be a perfect honeymoon destination.
In Seville, you could find flamenco and sevillana (a local dance), performed on the street, and beautiful architecture. The Seville cathedral is a perfect place to get lost in. At the cathedral is a courtyard filled with orange trees, which were blossoming and the air smelled divine. The photos show Alcazar, a formal royal palace.
We stopped briefly in the small city of Ronda. A city built on top of cliffs and jaw dropping views of the Spanish countryside.
Granada is lovely city and one of the most famous things about it is the Alhambra. A giant place/fortress complex. I do mean giant, it's huge, and stunning. It could be safely said that I went a little camera happy... about 350+ photos... maybe more...
Last but not least was Valencia! Go there! If you can, time it when the Fallas is going on! Its a huge celebration that the entire comunidad of Valencia participates it. People of all ages parade in traditional, local clothing. There are sculptures (known as fallas) on what feels like every other street. These are made of paper mache, wood and anything else that burns... because at the end of the multi day festival all of these works of art go up in fireworks and flames.
Whoops...
Happy New Year! So it's been almost a whole year since my last post! Yikes! Well, my goal for this year is to post at least once a month. It's already shaping up to be a busy year.
My sister-in-law is getting married in May! I am so excited for her and her fiancé. I designed her save the dates and invitation suite. They look amazing! She chose a romantic look with a color palette of sunflower yellow and regal purple. The setting is in the country side of New York state. I'll be sure to post pics of the invitations in the next couple months. But for now, here is her save the date! :-)
Nerding Out
My lovely husband is an aerospace engineer who went to a conference last week. While he was there, got me this awesome swag. In my mind it is the perfect blend of art and science. Now I just have to figure out where to hang it. Vintage travel posters AND space stuff! Eeek! By the way here is a link to all three of these awesome vintage style space travel posters.
Happy New Year!
2014 has been a busy, exciting, and interesting year for me and I hope everyone else can say the same. One of the many reasons is Katie and Robert, a couple who are positive, energetic, and thoughtful. They had a holiday wedding along the coast line in Southern California. They wanted the invitations to be colorful and not reflect the holidays.
The end result is a beautiful water color wash, that when the pieces are placed together give a full spectrum of color.
Alright, gotta go! Happy New Year everybody!
Vera and Zach's California Coastal Wedding
I hope you have had a chance to look at a new wedding suite that was designed for Vera and Zach. They are a very fun couple with a love of everything geeky. What made these invitations unique was that Vera's mother made the beautiful painting of the wedding location. Then Zach's mother created an equally beautiful landscape painting for the thank you cards.
I certainly wish I have half the talent that their mother's had. Maybe I should use this as motivation to take up a painting class.
Happy Thursday!
In honor of Veteran's Day (granted it's a few days late) I figured I would also mix it up with Throw Back Thursday. One of my numerous side projects is to retouch old family photos and I wanted to share this little gem. The man on the left is my grandfather. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII. The man on the right is his father who, with his wife, moved to America (from Rome) in the early 1920's.
The proud look on my great grandfather's face makes this a very special photo for me. When I finally finish retouching this shot I plan to hang it on the wall. Have a lovely weekend everyone!
